A common struggle I hear from my clients and folks who are trying to eat healthier, is that they have a hard time getting in protein.

When I first started my journey with healthy eating, I too had this same struggle! BUT, since I’ve made it such a habit over the years– it now comes as second nature to me (and it will for you too!)

I was in Vermont with my family a couple weeks ago and my boyfriend noticed I was “sneaking” in my protein in a way that was not only convenient and portable, but super tasty. Well, it might sound a little strange at first, but bear with me… here is my Protein Trick….

Put Protein Powder in your COFFEE!!

See that picture above where I’m with my mom and boyfriend (while my dad is so patiently taking our picture– ha!) there’s a packet of protein mixed with that coffee!
Not only does adding protein powder to your coffee help you with your daily protein intake, but it acts as a creamer and really makes it taste amazing.

Here is exactly how I add protein powder to my coffee:

  • Get one black cup of coffee (hot or iced– both work great!)
  • Use 1/2-1 scoop of protein powder. (I use SFH, or Collagen Peptides (I like Primal Kitchen brand Vital Proteins)
  • Add 1-2 packets of stevia if you want to sweeten it up
  • If you want.. add 1 tbsp of half & half OR 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk OR a little whole milk/skim milk– whatever you prefer.

Make sure you stir it VERY well. Also, make sure that the coffee is not PIPING hot when you add the powder to it as it will likely “clump up”. Note that different protein powders might react differently when combined with hot coffee, using a blender or hand held emulsifier can help!

I love this idea! I read once about coffee/protein smoothies too. I might have to try it out!
